Broomfield Hospital underwent several service alterations including pipework, data and electrical services. These alterations created breaches through compartment walls and above ceiling voids. Some areas experienced a change of use, which were not originally included in the fire strategy. As a result, the approved person had to re-evaluate and develop a revised fire strategy.

A full compartment survey was required and carried out throughout the building, including hazard rooms. Using a “find and fix” approach we effectively sealed all penetrations in 30- and 60-minute fire-rated barriers. Including simple linear seals, pattress works and installing putty pads to unprotected sockets and switches.

Working closely with hospital staff we carried out works out of hours to minimise disruption in a live working hospital environment.
